The Department of Mathematics started its functioning in the year 1968 with the appointment of Sri A.Nomula Rao and Sri.B.Subba Rao as lecturers.
The department was expanded in 1969 with the appointment of Mr.K.Seshagiri Rao and Mr. P.S Shankar Rao. Later to meet the growing demand for Mathematics Mr. T.Adinarayana Sharma is taken into the department in 1970 and he left the college to join in Government service in 1972. The introduction of new groups with mathematics combination arouse the need to recruit more hands.There by Mr.Sk.Hussain and Mr.P.V.Subba Rao were taken into the department.In 1973 Mr Sk.Hussain left the college seeking government service. In 1974 Mr. P.V Subba Rao follwed suite.Mr K. Seshagiri Rao left to USA for higher studies and Mr K. Chandra Sekhara Rao was taken in his vacancy.
In 1987,Mr K.Chandra Sekhara Rao left the college to join in an Engineering college.The vacancy was filled with Mr G.Sambasiva Rao. In 1988 Mr V.V.V Prasad was taken into the department.
Self finance courses like Computer Science and Electronics with maths combination were introduced in 1989.This led to rapid expansion of the department. In 1990 Mrs L.Achala and Mr P.Ramamohan Rao were appointed. Mr G.Srinivasa Rao was appointed to teach Statistics. Mr V.V.V Prasad left the college for government service in the end of 1990.Mr Y Siva Rama Krishna was absorbed into the department at that time.
In 1991 Mr R.Srinivasa Rao for Maths and Mr Raghu for Statistics were taken into the department.Mr K.Krishna Rao served as a lecturer for 3 months in leave vacancy.The department members were happy to know Mrs L.Achala got M.Phil degree from Gujarat University(Ahmedabad). In between these years when R.V.R.& J.C. College Of Engineering was in our campus, the members of the department taught Maths to their students for sometime and won the appreciation of the students and management.
In 1993 the Head of the department Mr A.Nomula Rao was promoted as Principal.We are proud to inform you that Mr A.Nomula Rao has been the Chairman of the Board of Studies of N.U in Statistics since 1992.He was also the co-ordinator of A.P open University study center which is on our campus from 1983-1987.
As the College has huge number of maths students, To create the interest in maths and to enlighten the intelligence with in the students the department conducted a quiz in mathematics and statistics in december 2002 with the coordination of the college COSSHIP division. we are particularly happy and proud to have a number of our former students as lecturers in the department
