The Department of Chemistry was established in the year 1968. Chemistry is often referred as the central science because of its role in connecting the physical sciences with the life sciences. It is committed to provide knowledge, skills and seeks to mould students into multifaceted persons capable of facing the challenges in rapidly changing world. It offers UG Programme with practically focused multidimensional quality learning experiences in excellent vibrant academic environment. It has qualified faculty members whose research expertise includes frontier areas in Chemistry.

The members of the Department have a good number of research publications to their credit and are involved in different curricular activities including National and International Seminars, Workshops etc., are actively engaged. The department encourages the students to participate in social activities to the physically disabled and economically backward class there by promoting the culture of social responsibility among students.

The students of the department in the past and present have performed well in the examinations and this can be seen from the good results, in which most of the students have passed out in first class while the rest in second class. Our students are placed in various multinational laboratories, pharmaceutical industries, academic institutions and research organizations.

The department has housed well-equipment four labs with the state-of-art facilities and a typical chemistry laboratory has workbenches with sink, water faucet and reagent rack. These workbenches can also have base cabinets to store glassware, apparatus etc. Special cabinets are used to store chemicals. Workbenches are fitted with necessary water and gas connections to conduct various experiments. Apart from these, Teacher's table, first aid kit, safety chart, and fire extinguisher are other necessary requirements.

The department has a varieties of books in the departmental library which is well maintain and also the number of books in the College libraries have been increasing year by year to help B.Sc students in their knowledge and studies.
